Adhesives
These are hazardous materials and may be brought to the SEIRD processing center at any time to the Jefferson Proving Grounds north of Madison.  SEIRD sponsors special collections at our satellite centers on the first or second Saturday of each quarter.

Aerosol Cans
When containers still have product in them or are still under pressure, most are considered hazardous waste and should be brought to the SEIRD processing center at the Jefferson Proving Grounds north of Madison or dropped off at one of the SEIRD to your county recycling centers.  If they contained food-related products or are empty, they should be disposed of in the garbage.

Agricultural Plastic
Agricultural plastic cannot be recycled; please dispose of it in the garbage. Burning agricultural plastic is illegal. Burning plastic releases toxic chemicals into the air.

Air Conditioners
Accepted at SEIRD recycling centers; $15 per unit.

Alkaline Batteries
SEIRD accepts rechargeable batteries. SEIRD does not accept alkaline batteries(Duracell, Eveready, Energizer, etc.).These are not hazardous, and may be disposed of in the garbage.

All-Purpose Cleaner
This is a hazardous material in its concentrated form. Dilute and use or bring to the SEIRD processing center at the Jefferson Proving Grounds north of Madison or to your county recycing center during special collections of household hazardous waste.

Aluminum Cans
Accepted for curbside recycling and at all SEIRD Centers. Please rinse out any remaining liquid or food from the cans. Check your Yellow Pages for scrap metal dealers who may be willing to accept your cans for payment. SEIRD does not purchase cans but will accept them.

Aluminum Siding
Aluminum siding can be recycled at most metal recycling businesses. Do not put in recycling bins. If still usable, consider donating to Habitat for Humanity or your SEIRD reuse center including the Switzerland/Ohio Co. Building Materials Reuse Center in East Enterprise.

Ammonia
This is considered to be household hazardous waste and mayt be brought to the SEIRD processing center at the Jefferson Proving Grounds north of Madison or to your county recycling center during special collection days.

Ammunition
Contact your local law enforcement agency for information.

Answering Machines
These may be brought to any SEIRD recycling center. There is no charge for disposal.

Antifreeze
Recyclable at any SEIRD recycling center. There is no charge for disposal.

Ant Poison
This is a hazardous material and may be brought to the SEIRD processing center at the Jefferson Proving Grounds north of Madison, or to your county recycling center during special collection days.

Appliances
ACCEPTABLE ITEMS INCLUDE: Refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, dehumidifiers, $15 per unit. Check with your local scrap metal recycler for other options. There is no charge for disposal at SEIRD.

Area Rugs
First, if there is any wear left in the rug, consider finding someone who could use it. Avoiding the landfill or transfer station is generally a good thing, but it may be your only option. SEIRD reuse centers cannot accept area rugs.

Arm Chair
If furniture is in good condition, donate it to a local charitable organization. SEIRD reuse centers cannot accept upholstered furniture. Check with your local trash hauler for other options.

Art & Hobby Paint
If the paint can be cleaned up with water, let it dry out and dispose of in regular trash. If paint thinners or solvents are necessary for clean up, then this is a hazardous material and must be taken to SEIRD recycling centers.

Arts & Crafts Supplies
Check with your local schools, youth organizations, or Sunday school classes to find out if they are interested in a donation of used or leftover art supplies in good condition. Items not suitable for donation may be garbage (for instance, a worn-out paintbrush). Oil based products must be taken to SEIRD recycling centers.

Asbestos
Requires special handling by certified contractors.

Ashes
Ashes are not recyclable, but may be placed in the garbage once they are stone cold!

Asphalt
Asphalt is considered a bulky waste item for the landfill.

Asphalt Sealer
If the asphalt sealer is latex-based (you can clean up with water), it must be dried out and then disposed with your trash. If it is not latex-based, it is a hazardous material and must be brought to the SEIRD processing center at the Jefferson Proving Grounds north of Madison, or to your county recycling center during special collection days.

Asphalt Shingles
May require special handling by a certified contractor.  Check with your local transfer station or trash handler.

Automobiles
Salvage businesses.
